Isabelle swears like a sailor as she throws herself out of the way of the enormous ball of fire flying towards them. She isn't fast enough and the leg of her jeans catches fire. Isabelle's Trouble kicks in and immediately forms a bubble around her. The jeans are still on fire. Isabelle curses and drags off her scarf using that to smother the flames.

When she's sure the fire is out she pulls her knees up and drops her head down on them, trembling and trying to hold back hysterical sobs.

The pain making shim slow, Riesy caught the fireball across the back of shiz arm thankfully, instead of full in the stomach - enough to launch it away as s/he fell back on shiz arse. The further pain only lanced across shiz tastebuds and s/he let out a war whoop loudly to try and combat the feeling. "Snap crackle pop!" S/he shouted, then whined as s/he struggled out of shiz melted, crispy coat. It had been one of shiz dad's favorite flannels. S/he would miss it. S/he sat, tongue lolling against the acrid taste of carcinogen. "Eeeeeeeee-hew-hew-heeeeew," s/he whined, not caring that s/he sounded super femme. "It tastes like burnt candied yaaaam." S/he wrapped the remains of the coat in a tight roll to smother the flames, breathing in short quick gasps like shiz father taught her to deal with hard injuries. "Y'alright, Sarge?" S/he hollered over at Isabelle.

“I-” Tanner started, the word sharp and unhappy, but the rest of what he might have said froze in his throat as the air crackled and light flared- he didn’t think, he just moved, throwing himself back from the blaze of fire and the thunderous pulse of dramatic horns and threatening strings. It struck the ground in the center of the group and swept outward with a roar before vanishing into nothing; the flames barely fell short of his feet before they dissipated.

“The fuck,” he snarled, his heart slamming rapidly against his ribs, his hands shaking. “Everyone okay??”

It looked like Lilybeth had gotten clear, and Eve had streaked past well ahead of the flames; Doc might’ve taken the edge of things, but if he had he didn’t seem bothered- but Riesy’s and Isabelle’s clothes had caught fire and Isabelle was- was in a bubble now, and that could not possibly be okay.

Lilybeth took a deep breath, brushed dirt off her ass, and went over to check on her teammates. "The fuck is right. You guys OK?"

"I'm fine!" Isabelle yelled, not looking up from her knees. She concentrated on trying to control her breathing which came in hitching half sobs that just needed to stop. She could handle this. She was fine. She hadn't been burnt severely, her jeans and her longjohns had taken the brunt of it. She could calm the hell down and make the bubble go away. She had to. Everyone was staring, she could feel it. Now everyone knew she couldn't hack it. Isabelle sucked in a breath and held it, trying to slow her pounding heart.

Eve watched the fireball fly by well over her head before she turned back to the group to see the damage their crew had taken. She was suddenly very glad she hadn't been riding Riesy's shoulder any longer.

She backtracked a little to see the bubble Isabelle was now in. Carefully, she reached one paw up, preparing to bat at it...

Riesy had to stop and stare when s/he caught sight of Isabelle inside what looked like a clear plastic shield. But shiz emergency training kicked in and overrode shiz wonder. "C'mon, Doc, Tanner, get over here, let's go, get away, Lilybeth, y'alright, where's my fucking cat!" S/he set a shoulder to the...bubble and shoved, concerned only with getting the entire party away from any further attacks, like s/he had promised Dwight what already felt like a small lifetime ago.

With a yowl, Eve sprung out of the way so as to not get run over by the now rolling bubble, and then darted to the head of the group. She flagged her tail up as if to say follow me and trotted along in the correct direction.

"Fucking hell, Riesy!" Isabelle fell backward as the bubble rocked and then scrambled to her feet. "Quit pushing! I can move it! Jesus! Give a person a freakin second!" Isabelle scrubbed furiously at the tears on her face and got to her feet. Shame burned through her veins that Riesy had the sense to get out of the line of fire before she thought of it.

Isabelle took a big shaky breath and started walking furiously toward town, ignoring the rest of the party, pain flaring in her leg with every step.

"Alright then c'mon, Thomas," Riesy said, turning to skip backwards ahead of her, "let's fuckin' race." S/he did not pull ahead though, pressing the bundle of shiz father's jacket against shiz injured arm and looking about wildly to catalog not only the group, but whether there were any other incoming threats.

"Sorry I cussed at you," s/he said when s/he drew abreast of Eve. "'N' called you a cat."

Tanner scrambled up at Riesy’s rapid instructions, but he hesitated to actually reach out and touch the bubble, not sure if that was safe, or smart, and with his heart still hammering in his chest and the music still wailing alarm at him, he couldn’t quite overcome the instinctive drive to avoid contact with something so obviously unnatural. His hesitation turned out to be less of a hindrance than it could have, when Isabelle scrambled to her feet and started walking, taking the bubble with her, scolding as she did; he wavered another moment, but Eve was out ahead and Riesy was right on Isabelle’s heels- sort of- and Lilybeth and Doc were at least both on their feet.

And really, he didn’t want to stay out in the open any longer than he had to either.

He moved to stay close to Lilybeth, and gave a subtle tilt of his head towards the bubble.

“Is- is she supposed to, to be in that? Is this- normal?”

Lilybeth took in the scene. "I mean, she's Troubled, but--whataminute, the Thomas trouble is...not that. Whoa."

She suddenly had the uncomfortable sensation of secondhand embarrassment, as she realized that probably revealed way more about Isabelle than what she'd want known.

"Nope it's not!" Riesy called over to Lilybeth and Tanner, eyes wide to try and overcommunicate the "shut up!" "Sure fuckin' handy though, let's play with it when we get Away."

Tanner’s brow furrowed, and he tilted his head, a half a dozen questions- was it new, then, or had it changed? Could they change? Was it a threat?- welling up, but between the look of chagrin from Lilybeth, and the exaggerated expresion of stop asking questions from Riesy, he just bit his lip and kept quiet. He didn’t understand, but that wasn’t exactly new, and pelting them with questions might just remind them all how much he didn’t belong there.
