The moose paused, ears going back at a particularly sour note, but they pricked forward again at Eve’s chirp, and it took two more forward steps, giving all proper consideration to Doc’s words.

:No challenge,: it agreed, because the people were small and standing still and the Big Person Who Talked was calm and polite. And the Big Person Who Talked had a small-cat-friend, and this was acceptable. It moved close enough to sniff Eve, and then Doc, considering.

:Close-walk good food. Storm, bad-spoiled, strange cloud. Not-walk cloud. Close-walk people, people leave people space. No people, strange,: the moose explained. :No home, home past not-walk cloud.:

Eve brushed noses with the Moose, whiskers wiggling, and she gave another pleased meep at it. Whatever Doc had said to it seemed to be working. Maybe they would actually survive this. <Doing good,> she told Doc, trying not to sound overly hopeful.

Isabelle watched with absolute bafflement as the moose gave Eve a friendly sniff, like her dogs might sniff one another. Moose liked cats? Then the moose sniffed Doc and she relaxed. Whatever was going on the moose clearly was calming down.

"I know, friend, it's been a strange and scary time. But there's still good safe places inside the cloud where oyu c'n stay until you can get home," Doc pulled some granola bars out of his pocket and unwrapped them for his new friend.

Eve glanced sidelong at Doc, and when the moose bent its head to accept the granola, she sprang lightly up to the bucket of one of its huge antlers. It didn't even seem to notice, until she began to purr. She draped the tips of her paws over the edge of his antler and leaned close enough to give the top of his head a few good licks, soothing and cleaning.

She looked down at Doc, who was for once below her. <Onward with our new friend?>

Lilybeth stared in awe at Doc and Eve's feats of successful moose-calming and, in Eve's case moose-climbing. She had semi-fond memories from elementary school of visits to the Haven Moose Farm and Museum, but meeting a moose in the wild was...not like that.

The moose happily accepted the offered snacks, posture relaxing. Yes, these were acceptable people, this was an acceptable situation. The small-cat-friend leaped from Giver-of-Snacks onto the moose’s antler, and provided grooming, and this was also acceptable; the moose twitched its ears, and continued to crunch the granola.

:Yes,: the moose agreed, thoughts content- the strangeness and confusion was Unpleasant, but there was food and that was good.

At the sour note that just kept getting louder, Riesy reached out to grab a fistful of the back of Tanner's jacket and raised up on shiz toes to whisper in his ear. "Shhh, none of that. You're alright. I need you to stay right here, between me and the problem." S/he pressed closer, peeking over his shoulder but speaking into the fabric, hoping no one else would hear shim admit, "It's kept me in one piece so far."

Tanner didn’t exactly relax when Riesy grabbed the back of his jacket, but the worst of the jarring notes in the music faded out- helped, as well, by the fact that Doc clearly had the moose well in hand. It seemed to have decided to be friendly, and that was- definitely better than the alternative.

He blushed a little at Riesy’s comment, but couldn’t completely hide the flicker of a smile. He turned his head just enough that he could speak quietly and still be understood.

“Well if that’s so,” he said, shifting his stance just enough to imply that he definitely wasn’t moving.

The familiar back and forth helped calm shim from overextending to sense the Invisibeast. S/he was in so much trouble. S/he almost couldn't remember what he had done earlier to upset shim. But s/he couldn't just let it lie either, couldn't let his voice chase chilly bumps and phantom caresses up and down shiz spine without clearing the elephant off shiz chest and the sour taste from shiz throat. And it was easier, not looking at him.

"Tanner?" S/he traced his shoulder blade through the coat with one finger, wondering at how he was put together, physically, mentally, and metaphysically. "It stings...it flat out hurts. When you minimize. What...what my Trouble does. And I didn't like it earlier, and it was probably a factor in why...I was so bitchy. Before. And I don't want- that's not how I wanna act towards you. It's not fair. Anyway, I just. Wanted to get that out there. Cause it feels like taking advantage if I don't say we were both kinda jerks."

S/he stepped back from him, wrapping shiz arms around shiz waist to keep whatever was happening from spreading out. S/he hoped honesty didn't backtrack them too much.
